Description
Back by popular demand! These handmade Sterling Silver Spoonie Necklaces feature a dainty spoon charm on a silver chain, complete with a spring-ring clasp.
The chains are 16-inches in length, though we have a small number of 18-inch chains available – if you would like one of these, please drop me an email so we can have one made up for you.
Each necklace is packaged minimally in a white recyclable necklace box, complete with reusable lilac ribbon tied in a bow. If you would like to send a necklace directly to a friend, just add their name and address in the ‘shipping address’ field. If you would like a gift message including for them (or a gift message from me if you’re treating yourself!), just let me know in the ‘note to seller’ field during checkout.
The necklaces are priced at £14.99 plus UK first class large letter postage, with 15% of all sales income donated to charity. These necklaces are available in the UK only for the time being, but if there’s demand we’ll look into expanding shipping areas as promptly as possible!
Purchases from October 2021 will include a donation to The LUNA Project, a charity run for young people with lived experience of disability, by young people with lived experience of disability. Funds raised through these Spoonie Necklaces will be used to help the charity continue providing in-person school workshops and online events and resources, designed to provide support and raise awareness of disability issues.
I originally developed these necklaces as part of Spoonie Survival Kits, my fundraising social enterprise. SSK came to an end in February 2021 so I could give more of my limited energy to my wider charity work and freelance career, but ever since then I’ve received messages from various people asking if they could be brought back in any other capacity. The necklaces were incredibly popular and received glowing reviews, so I’m absolutely thrilled to be making them available once more!
The symbolism of the spoon comes from The Spoon Theory, a popular and accessible way of communicating the energy-limiting nature of many long-term illnesses. With these Spoonie Necklaces, I want to offer a subtle but empowering symbol of belonging to the chronic illness community – a club that nobody asks to be a part of, but one which we make the best of however we can. Consider this necklace an extra spoon on standby for when you’re running low, and a sign of solidarity with the millions of people in the UK alone living with long-term health conditions.
We have a limited number of these Sterling Silver Spoonie Necklaces for this initial launch, but if you’re interested in placing a bulk order for your business, charity or organisation, please do get in touch and we’ll see what we can do!
It means the world to me to be able to do things like this – connecting people with mutual lived experiences through an adorable item, and raising money for a deserving cause at the same time. Thank you so much for your continued support, and I hope you love your necklace!
