Thankyou so much for writing this, I was recently diagnosed with a chronic illness and am in the process of getting a 2nd diagnosis at the moment.
I have struggled so much this past year, after studying dance and performing full time for 4 years I was ready to jump right into more classes, auditions and anything I could get my hands on when I suddenly got symptoms that stopped me in my tracks.
Learning to listen to my body has been one of the hardest things I'm still trying to learn. Reading this is so helpful, and I'm sending all the love your way xx

Thanks so much for reading Tara, and I'm so sorry to hear about your own situation. Let me point you in the direction of lovely Kate Stanforth, who I'd highly recommend connecting with. She's a beautiful chronically ill dancer working to facilitate change in the industry! https://www.instagram.com/katestanforth/?hl=en

Hi, thank you so much for writing this! I feel like there is someone that understands. I realise this was written over a year ago but I have just trawled the Internet looking for something, anything about having to stop dancing because of chronic illness. I would love to chat to you some more and hear if you have found any other support? I was working professionally as a performer and teacher both of which came to an abrupt finish when I became unwell 2 years ago. It's now looking like I definitely won't dance again and that's the thing I am finding the most difficult. Never imagined a life without dance!

I'm not a dancer but can relate to your story. I have several chronic pain syndromes and certainly grieve my formoer life. Your brain still says do this but your body says no. God bless. Feeling your pain!
